Am I a Candidate?

Two-staged operations

If your surgeon believes you are a high risk for a one-stage operation, it is likely safer for you to undergo your weight loss procedure in two steps. The first step will either be a sleeve gastrectomy or a LAP BAND. These are both safe operations that can be completed relatively simply with minimal risk to you. Once a year has passed, and your initial weight loss slows down (usually up to 80-100 pounds), the second stage can be completed. At your lighter, new weight, performing a gastric bypass or a biliopancreatic diversion will be much safer, and provide you with the ability to lose additional weight.

Risks:
Please note that these operations carry their own inherent risks, morbidity rates, and mortality rates. Be sure to review your specific risks with your surgeon directly.
